I just got back from a two weeks vacation in Santiago during witch I rented a room at the casa Miguel y Damaris. They are very warm and welcoming people. They’ve open me the door to their house and made me feel right at home. They are always available to help you with anything you need. The meals are always delicious and inexpensive, full of typical Cuban flavours. On top of that, they prepare your meals at the time you want to have them. The house is spacious and very clean. Far enough for the center of town so you can have some peace, but close enough that in five minutes, you are in the middle of the action. I have discovered in Santiago a city full of music, dance, boutiques and wonderful people. All around the city, you can see beautiful mountains and on one side, a vast bay where it is very nice to go for a walk or to read a book. It’s with great sadness that I had to leave Miguel and Damaris, but I can assure you that once you have stayed in their home, you will want to return as soon as possible.

Casa Miguel Y Damaris

My review about the casa: Although we stayed at this Casa, we were actually looked after by Miguel's Brother, Ernando and his wife (we think) who were both incredibly warm and charismatic characters. We had meals on all nights we stayed which was always tasty and very generous in size. There is a beautiful little open area just outside the room where we chilled on our first and last days sipping on some tasty coffee.
The Casa itself is beautiful and spacious. Amenities as expected are simple but we had our own air conditioned room with private bathroom and everything worked, although we did manage to block their toilet unaware that you are not supposed to put toilet paper down the toilet (you should dispose of it in the bin next to the toilet). Fortunately, Ernando was very chilled about the whole thing so no drama. Ah well, you live you learn
We also spent a night away hiking Sierra Maestra and were allowed to leave our excess baggage behind in our room without any extra charge. We left a $5 tip for this friendly service. On returning from the hike, Erno learned it was my birthday the day before and shared a huge slab of his Son's cake with me. This was a lovely gesture and although we were both very full after another filling dinner, we did manage to find a little space for the cake. On our last morning we were very kindly given a ride to the Viazul terminal by our host. They can pick you up from the airport or Viazul bus station after arrival, just give them a ring and arrange.

Casa Miguel y Damaris

My review: We arrived the 20th of July. Unfortunately we couldn't stay at Miguel y Damaris right away. We didn't know we had to confirm by phoning them before, we just confirmed by e-mail. Damaris y Muguel made an arrangement for us for a few night in another casa, at their neighbours. After a few days we moved over to stay with them. Their casa is very nice, beautiful colonial style, we were staying in a comfortable room. They are both very, very friendly. More than friendly. They cook delicious and are prepared to consider your wishes. I prefer to eat vegetables more than meat. They found that no problem at all and offered me the best veggies ever. They shared so much extra with us for exemple food they made for themselves when they found out it was my boyfriends favorite, they made so many p! honecalls for us and never charged it, organised valuable contacts and gave us good advice...It was really lovely to stay with them and I would definitely love to stay with them again next time I'm in Santiago! But then...I will call them myself before arrival, to make sure! The picture is with Miguel in his doorstep and my boyfriend in front of the door. The other one is their beautiful colonial living room.

Review

To be fair i have to start saying that we didnt enjoy Santiago as much as the rest of Cuba. Maybe this has something to do with my low rating on this casa.
Location was ok.
The hosts, were not as wellcoming and natural as the rest in Cuba. quite pushy to sell dinners and not very reliable in few occasions.

all in all was not bad, but it was not at the same level as other houses.
Note: I am not talking about facilities, only about the way the hosts are.
For starters they are not evenm the ones in the photo!
If i ever go back to Santiago I wont be satying here, and is the only casa i have been in Cuba that I can say that.

Casa specifics: Quiet, Comfortable
Amenities: Airconditioning, Ceiling fan
How was your room?: OK
How was the food they offer?: OK
Other services they offer: Not many.
If you arrange with them a car to pick you up from the station you need to ask prices, otherwise the taxi driver will over charge you.
Other comments: Try another house, really!

Casa Miguel y Damaris

We spent a lovely new years eve at this casa. Miguel and Damaris are very friendly and caring hosts. And you can always have a good laugh (and drink) with Miguel. Damaris is a wonderful cook and does her very best to let you enjoy your stay and make you comfortable. They have a beautiful colonial house with patio and a small roof terrace.

Casa Miguel y Damaris

This Casa is fantastic!

Despite being unable to re-confirm our booking the day before, via telephone from another city (CubaJunky gave us the wrong phone number), our Casa hosts (Miguel and Damaris) were ready to receive us, even though others were queuing up to get in. We were delighted that they held out for our booking, since this is not always the case in Cuba.

The Casa itself is spacious and beautiful, and very clean. Our hosts were welcoming and friendly, and the food was spectacular. We were in the room closest to the road and it's not that noisy at all.

We'd definitely go back to this Casa.

Casa Miguel y Damaris

I stayed two weeks in this casa and to me, it was amazing. Yes, there is noise but there will be noise everywhere in santiago. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, they will help you with anything you need. The house is far enough from the center of the city to get some peace but close enough that in 5 minutes, you're in the heart of town. I am certain that if you choose to stay in this casa, you will feel like going back

How was your room?: I liked the room, it's not huge but it was fine by me
How was the food they offer?: Very good and they will prepare it at the time you choose

Nice people, but the room is very small and the bed is pretty bad. The neighborhood was very noisy but maybe that was because of christmas.

How was your room?: I felt like leaving as soon as I have seen it ...
How was the food they offer?: Breakfast was good/ok.
